Since human activity is causing climate change (source: IPCC), the climate and ecological transition must come through economic, technical, and commercial activity. Until now, no ecological or energy transition has occurred, and the discovery of new energy sources has simply been added to the old ones. Today, as more and more voices are raised against the consequences of climate change, the idea is no longer to add to the energy sources used to produce goods and services, but rather to replace greenhouse gas-emitting sources with those that emit fewer gases causing climate change. So, to achieve this energy conversion, do we need a new major school for the transition?

France has already experienced the creation of major state institutions, necessary for administering the country's development from the 18th century onwards, followed by the emergence of major business schools created to enable industrialization and economic development. Today, society is faced with a scarcity of resources and excessive greenhouse gas emissions. Given the stakes, common sense argues for the creation of an ecological and climate-focused state body, or major schools for the ecological transition. The Citizens' Convention for Climate is moving in this direction, as it promotes education to address the challenges of climate change through responsible and low-carbon consumption. The European Commission is moving in the same direction and calls on states to provide students with access to quality studies on climate change.

Nevertheless, since human economic development is the source of climate change, the ecological transition will necessarily come from within it, through regulation, or more likely through necessity in the face of the announced contraction of fossil fuels, much like Saudi Arabia, which reached its peak production at 13 Mb/day. The major school for the ecological transition will therefore be one that allows for the revision of product, brand, marketing, supply, and financing strategies, among others. It will also be a major engineering school, as it will enable the eco-design of products and services. An ecological "just do it" approach is therefore necessary in business and engineering schools, which risk being disrupted by new entrants with programs entirely designed to face climate challenges. Unless the role of technicians instead shifts to focusing on climate manipulation, a riskier prospect.
